The other life

I feel like I have a parallel life

One which awaits the darkness of the night

For as soon as I’m asleep

It’s the dawn of a new day in my head

The places it takes me to

Or I take myself to

I’ll never know if they are for real or not

For it seems surreal

This life I live

Whereas the dreams

Are too real to be dreams

I wonder what I do

In this parallel world

While I’m awake in the real world

Or what seems like it’s real.

Love is…

Love is what stays in your heart -

what warms you even on the darkest nights

of the coldest winters.

Love is…

The way he holds you,

the sharp little gasp when your frozen feet find his.

The scent of his forehead as you kiss him goodnight.

The laughter at how lame your jokes are - both of yours.

The wake-up calls.

The fights,

and the soft, stumbling apologies that come after.

It’s the arguments over whose turn it is

to turn off the lights,

or pick the movie.

It’s the late-night drives.

The nights that blur into mornings.

The joy, the ache,

the incredible mess of feelings

that can only come

from something so simple and vast:

Love.

Pause

She reached out to the swirling world

from within hers;

arms outstretched,

trying, once again,

to hold on to something

that could slow it all down.

She had grown tired..

of the blurry faces,

the hushed voices,

the laughter,

the colours,

the noise that rose and folded into itself.

It was all right there,

so vividly alive,

but she couldn’t quite step into it.

Not yet.

All she wanted

was to stop time;

just for a little while..

long enough

to be still,

to be quiet,

to have enough

for herself.

Through their Eyes

Do you ever wonder

if all we know

is all there is?

Do you ever ask yourself

if you’re missing out

on something else?

Are we truly alone..

or are we being watched?

Are footsteps following us,

or are our thoughts not ours at all?

What if there’s something

beyond this world..

beings aware of us,

watching everything we do?

Do you think they wonder

what we’re doing with our lives?

Do you think they pity us;

seeing how we live?

Waging wars.

Killing children.

Oppressing. Tormenting.

Polluting, warming,

destructing, depleting.

Do you wonder

why they fear

showing themselves to us?

Maybe we should see ourselves

from a different view:

a little farther away,

a little more honest.

Then maybe we’ll see

who we really are:

beastly, inconsiderate,

lacking compassion,

lacking love.

So look in the mirror.

See yourself.

And ask:

when you leave this world,

what do you wish

to leave behind?

Awakening.

Lost myself, somewhere along the way..
Don't know how, don't know why.
When did you touch my soul; when did you look beyond?

Amidst all the chaos, I stand still
Unmoving, unfaltering,  unwithering.
Under all the supervision
And all the noisy chattering

It drives me crazy, makes me burn
From deep within the depths of my soul.
Yet I show it not on the outside
I will stay strong, I will not hide.

My ink dries up, my words disappearing
My mind goes blank, as I stand here shivering.
I wonder what its come down to..
The story of my life and the reason for this struggling

Pages are turning and chapters ending
But I push through them all, unrelenting
Lost in the madness of this addictive craze
I lose sight of my surroundings,  of Your protective gaze

Why should I rush, or hurry it up?
Wht should I even think, of giving it up?
I stand for truth, I stand for love.
I stand for God, in heaven above.

I slip back to reality,  make a fall
But the landing unexpectedly isn't hard at all
I feel the comfort in the arms of God
I'm not alone, and so I'll stand tall.

Forgive me my lord, for my moment of doubt
Forgive me, for my unnecessary thoughts.

I drift back to sleep, this time in peace.
Touched by a mysterious warm kiss, in the gentle of the breeze.

Thinking, I sat
Lost within myself
Thoughts pull me in
Deeper and deeper
As I delve into
Complete ignorance
Of everything and
Everyone around me
Faces fade
Eyes grow tired
Of the same old scenes
And I wonder
How long will this last?
I wish to return
To my familiar places
Where I'll find
The ones that I love..
I want to fall asleep
Into eternal bliss
Of not knowing,
Not being aware.
I try to catch myself
Before it all disappears
But somehow I awaken
From my land of dreams.
(I wrote this many years ago.. Found a crumpled piece of paper in an old file today and this is what it contained.)

A day in the life of an Architect

These sharp lines
Start to get fuzzy..
The plans and elevations
Are all getting messy.

My mind drifts,
From thought to thought..
Concentration level
Has reached a naught.

All the targets
I hoped to achieve,
By the end of today
Yet again deceive..

Printed sheets
Pile up higher and higher,
Hopes to leave on time
Vaporize into thin air..

Surroundings have become
Nothing but a blur.
Quickly check the time
Wondering 'how much longer?'

Fifth cup of coffee
Fifteen drawings done;
I finally wrap up,
And decide to shut down.

Just as I close
Imagine my horror
As the words appear
'FATAL ERROR'.
